We were invited by JC Peeush to participate in a Book Fest organised by the JCI in Sanquelim on Sunday 1st June.
The opportunity to go to Sanquelim, to promote books and to collaborate with a new team was plenty of reason.
So three car loads ( packed to the gills with books, craft and art material and plenty of fun and good will ) made their way to the Ravindra Bhavan, Sanquelim. What an immense building, designed like a space craft and sitting sqaut in the middle of Sanquelim greeted us !
Chrome, glass and steel.. polished floors, white stone decor and halogen lights – it felt like we were at an International Airport and with books we are always ready to take off.
JC Peeush was warm and welcoming and he took infinite care of us through out the day. It is always heartening to meet someone who is committed to making a difference and will go out of their way to make that happen. This is one such gentleman!
We set up our Burrow Table and arranged a display of books from Indian Publishers.
Isa set up her scribble mural station and in no time we had some beautiful scribbles taking shape.
Priya Naik had all the Reading Adventure station set up for take off and children tripped up to take their adventure. Reading a book or being read to, doing a follow up activity, and even getting the book character painted on by Erica for a long last memory.
Melcom found his calling in the Captain’s Hat and was folding and ripping paper to magical creations with young children who read and listened to the story with full attention.
There was so much to do and see, almost too much, so the Little Fingers Tree remained empty for most of the morning. Krystal got some wee hands to leave their mark.
Tree’s grow we know, and at Bookworm we are patient. Reading and relationships need to be nurtured.
Our team of Mazi, Shreya, Jewel, Sheena Analia, Priya J, Niju, Ferdie, Barkha, Prithvi and Flavia rushed from station to station, assisting, encouraging or directly participating in activities to ensure a full day!
We closed our session with a special paper folding session led by Isa and the whole spirited team of Bookworm drove out of Sanquelim- happy restored and back to work.
We hope to go back to Sanquelim to discover more and read more and until then we thank JCI Sanquelim for having us over, treating us all to lunch and thinking that reading is important – it IS !
