Summer vacations are a great time to explore deeper and longer creative sessions with children who get a much needed break from school, tuition classes, and homework during this time. The Visual Arts and the Library Programs at Bookworm collaborated this May to bring to the children in Saligao and beyond a fun filled bookish summer camp where we explored art, craft, poetry, and much more.

Day 1: Children made beautiful nature-themed poetry zines inspired by the book Why Always? By Michio Mado and Oscar Bluemner. This session was facilitated by Sanika

Day 2: Children explored poetry further by experiencing poetry books from Bookworm’s collection and creating their own poems, facilitated by Anandita

Day 3: Facilitated by Ana Liza Rodrigues, this session helped children reuse plastic bottles and old newspapers to create their own papier mache animals.

Day 4: In the ‘Paint in Motion’ session facilitated by Sanika, children sketched a frame with moving elements outside the VJKCC, coloured it, and added in their moving elements to the painting.

Day 5: The ‘Being Water’ session facilitated by Aru Bose, children shared their experiences of their favourite beach day in beautiful images and words

Day 6: Aru Bose facilitated the last session which explored mapmaking. Each child brought a ‘treasure’, hid it in a special place, then created maps to lead their friends to it!
