Bookworm Trust

I have been called number crazy and I must confess; I am. Working with a team who is focussed on quality of the work, I might be the person obsessed with numbers more than anyone else. That is the reason for this post, I must confess Smile

Two weeks back, we hit a major internal milestone with our Libraries in Schools (LiS) program. We have issued over 10,000 books in LiS for this academic year between June and October 2015.

With a team of ten people working on LiS, this is a proud moment for us and a reason to celebrate. That means each of have issued about ONE THOUSAND books on an average to the children we work with. It is the team’s sheer hard work that made it possible and I am proud to work with a team like ours.

Another proud achievement is that we have been digitising all the lending records through our Reading Assessment Tool (RAT) which is giving us quicker insights about different data metrics like these.

(Note: KBM and Corjuem are the newest schools in the program, resulting in low lending numbers)

The next in pipeline over this term break is to see, where the breakdowns are happening in terms children borrowing fewer books, which are the most preferred kinds of books over this term and how we can scaffold this while choosing books for the next school terms.

We are also collecting feedback from parents on the library program, children’s reading habits and other profile data. This will help us in designing the program to see what has been working and what we need to improve upon and how we best fit book to reader in our effort to ensure that all children have this opportunity.

As the term break is approaching, we have more things in store for us as we are pausing and reflecting on the months passed to see how we can make reading a more pleasurable, meaningful and effective activity for our children and my data crunching is helping all the time !
