Summer Dream Camp was held at Vinay & Jean Kalgutkar Community Centre (Bookworm), Saligao from 6th to 11th May, from 10.30 am. to 12.30 pm. Thank you so much to all those who showed interest in the Summer Dream Camp. Children dream of summer vacation to unwind after exams, a break in between , a break between old and new academic year. They dream of freedom and play, time to explore, to create memories with friends. This summer camp gave them the opportunity to do all this and more.
All set to welcome the children with summer decorations!
The camp started with Sanika’s Story writing workshop. Children read and analyzed the book Mahagiri, explored its elements and then proceeded to write their own stories. Children created stories from their lives as well as imagined ones. The horror genre showed up most, which was interesting!
Day 2 was a houseful with the Parent Child Session by Ana ,to make a bond between the parent and child and to create edible memories. Children and parents worked together which was nice to see and all the children and parents managed to set up a very fun and enjoyable session. During the session both parent and child made a snail , created a scene on a cracker and stack /dip. All enjoyed each segment and tried their best and created lovely Snacks. They could not wait to gobble it up. Slurp! Slurp! Yum! Yum!
Speaker’s charged! Music On! Children Ready!
All set for Movement-Dance session by Sammy which was full of energy. Not only children but parents too danced with full energy. The photos say it all! This energetic dance led to good borrowing of books.
What a lovely Cyanotype session by Sanika! All the children got a chance to explore a new form of art. They created their own prints through some experiments. Children printed leaves and flowers, their hands, shapes which they cut out to make specific posters and scenes. After the session, the parents who had come to pick up the children appreciated the art work very much.
The Summer Camp ended with Stories through clay molding by Asher and Shravani. Asher and Shravani were amazing facilitators who made the children depict the stories through clay objects. The children made different things using clay like animals, fruits ,houses, very small-small elements which they use in everyday life. Not only this, they worked in groups and used the clay objects that they made to narrate the stories. The stories they made were of animal friendship, celebrating friends’ birthdays, stories about winter days using various ways of warming up, etc.
The camp ended with a celebration!
A total of 124 children participated along with 27 parents with deep engagement and lots of excitement. The camp also led to children borrowing more than 59 books.
