One of the best thing about 2nd Lt. Jayendra Jayba Rane Govt. High School, Kudchire, Bicholim school is that it is nested in the heart of nature and one will find greenery everywhere. Just right across the school, there is a river flowing which is utilized by people, animals and birds. Birds, yes, you will also indeed find different kinds of birds over here. It was a welcome opportunity for us to combine a story “Salim Mamoo and meby Zai Whitaker (Author), Prabha Mallya (Illustrator) along with a nature walk to do some bird watching.

It was a perfect day  to bring the children out from their class in the midst of nature to explore and watch different kinds of birds. To be honest, I was not hoping to see more than three birds but to my surprise, we  spotted so many birds. It was such a perfect coincidence that we saw five Hornbills, the first bird mentioned in the story.

We were also lucky to see a Drongo, Pigeon, Cormorant and an Egret. It was truly, a perfect day for bird watching. The children identified and shared the Konkani names of these birds and we all matched these with their English names.

It was a wonderful experience of exploring  nature and birds. It was a moment of realization when I wondered how many birds would we have seen if we had explored the entire village. I truly believe that exploring is learning and nature has so much to share and teach us.
