The sea shore is about 3 kms from Bookworm. We drive past everyday, sometimes more than twice a day and have not explored the space for what it can do to our spirit and body. Miramar Beach from Bookworm’s perspective has been left to the bus loads of tourists who make a bee line for the water’s edge and always come away looking elated.
Turning 10 this year, has also turned our heads a wee bit. As the team grows and our spirits too, we need more space and more nourishment and the sea beckoned.
Some Monday mornings, we have our team meetings on the beach. We have had a Haiku writing workshop on the beach producing some powerful bits and bobs of text that affirm our spirit and finally, finally I had an evening of Theatre on the Beach with Alia.
Alia has been doing this Community Theatre play for more than a month now. I do not need a calendar to know it is a beach theatre day.. .. the energy in the half-red house shifts and even those of the team who are not attending, seem lighter and more spirited from the mood that the imagery of the beach evokes.
Every Community Theatre day, people show up, consistently and faithfully. Not yet the same people, but people.Yesterday, we gathered and then walked, already lighter from leaving the hard tarmac and joining the shifting cool sand. We had an evening of fun, laughter, creative energy and much joy.
Ever so often when we paused to look around us, there were gapers and gawkers and googly eyed wonderers, wanting to join but not wanting too. It seemed to be too much fun to be an open group. But it is !
If you have not been to the beach with us, you must come. Alia has so much of terrific creative theatrics awaiting you and if that is not enough, there is the beach and a setting sun that will lift your spirits and remind you of how blessed we are to be in Goa and have Bookworm as a friend !
What fun on the beach the other day! we will come back again for more beach theatre! three cheers to the bookworm team.
