Book Treasury

Whilst the library space is for the community around Panjim, and all are welcome, most of the children come from middle class families. The School Book Treasury’s aim is to support schools that are more poorly resourced by supplying reading materials, together with help, support and training for existing teachers, to enrich the library work done within the schools.

Bookworm provides boxes of books to mostly rural schools on a regular basis, and just like a lending library, books to cover all ages are regularly rotated using Bookworm’s van. Bookworm staff support the teachers in these schools where necessary, both in the classroom and in additional storytelling sessions.  The teachers’ workshops that Bookworm runs provide an important resource to aid the teaching of English. The schools, throughout the State, are both Government-aided and small private schools teaching within the Government system.

The Bookworm Van

This is an area Bookworm would like to expand, reaching out to the more rural areas that have less support locally.

The Bookworm School Book Treasury is actively and enthusiastically supported by Renee Coutinho and her team in Ontario, Canada. The Book Treasury International have their own website at www.thebooktreasury.org if you want to find out more.
